Mote’s international center for coral reef research & restoration
“We are guardians of the sea and all living things that depend on it.”
MOTE Marine Laboratory is an independent, nonprofit marine research institution comprising world-class marine scientists committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education.
From humble beginnings in a tiny, one-room laboratory in a small Florida town, efforts have grown to include more than 20 diverse marine research programs.
It became clear that in order to understand more about coral restoration, their 3-day intensive workshop could provide deep research knowledge and insights into laboratory practices. In December 2021, Cynthia attended the coral restoration workshop which covered topics such as nursery design and development, asexual and sexual propagation techniques, resiliency, stress testing, data collection, and a whole lot more.
While many of these practices are not part of the work of the PhDivaDiver Foundation, the knowledge, community building, and techniques learned and taught at the MOTE Marine Laboratory will continue to impact our restoration work in the Cayman Islands.
