about phdivadiver
PhDivaDiver became an underwater photographer nearly 10 years ago. She is an avid scuba diver and PADI Assistant Instructor so has the opportunity to photograph reefs quite often mostly Cayman, Bonaire, Turks and Caicos, and Fiji in April 2021. Scuba led her to photography and photography led her to coral restoration work and certification 5 years ago; she is now qualified to teach the certification to other PADI divers. She has been sharing and selling her underwater art (annual calendars, cards, etc.) on Cayman to benefit coral reef restoration. She works literally underwater with the corals and above water in classrooms with young children, teaching them about reefs in partnership with many organizations. She has used her experiences in scuba and photography to educate others about the need for coral restoration and has presented to a wide group of audiences.
what we do
In 2020, PhDivaDiver founded the PhDivadiver Coral Foundation, a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit to raise awareness and funding for coral restoration. Stressing that without blue (our oceans and its inhabitants), there is no green (the land mass we develop for our sustenance), i.e., #nobluenogreen.
Wall-sized murals were created from an extensive collection of her photos of fish, sea animals, sea life, corals, and all the sea allows us to see. The “Dream Reef” murals are installed in public places in Pittsburgh and will be utilized to raise awareness of what life under the oceans’ surfaces provide and reveal. Additionally, monies raised will continue to support local Caymanian efforts for coral preservation, as well as provide educational materials about coral reefs and their significance, for students and teachers.
